A Ghost Town on Salisbury Plain
Originally an important trading village in the heart of Salisbury Plain, Imber is a fascinating time capsule. Taken over in 1943 to train American troops for the D-Day landings, the military gave villagers 47 days to pack up and leave.
Despite promises of a peacetime return, the village was never handed back and remained a military training ground. This ghost town of days gone by is now off-limits to the public, except on a few select occasions. This includes a long weekend in August.
