Making This Mum Smile

I’m a mum and I have a confession to make.

I love gin.

Okay so I guess I’m not the only mother in the world to make that statement, nor am I the only mother to look back at the past 10 years of motherhood and watch my drinking habits change as the nights of bar and club hopping dwindle and the nights of sofa sipping increase.

To begin with, it was ALL about wine, particularly a glass of lovely smooth and mellow merlot poured as child number 1 hit the hay. By the time child number 2 came along, red wine and tiredness were no longer a match made in heaven, as I fought to stay awake myself beyond about 8 o’clock.

The sofa sipping search then took me to Prosecco, the favoured tipple of many a mother to make their glass of choice make the day feel ‘special’. By child number 3 though, I was looking for something new. An extra spark of evening ignition to look forward to, and a touch of sophistication to make me feel as grown up as a mother of 3, heading towards 40 should feel.

This is when 2 old friends reappeared. Mr Gin and Mrs Tonic. This winning combination was the one to hit the spot, and gin o’clock became a favourite time of day. There must have been something in the water, for as my gin revelation hit, gin mania swept the nation with gin bars, gin palaces and all manner of new flavoured gin’s hitting the market. I was lucky enough to come across a lovely local Sloe Gin from The Wiltshire Liqueur Company, that soon became my favourite, so much so in fact that I began working with them to help others like me to discover their wonderful drinks.

Nowadays, my cupboard is never without its bottle of Wiltshire Liqueur Sloe Gin, but the stock is running low, so some (not so) subtle hints will be dropped about the impending Mothers Day celebrations, alongside mutterings of ‘Flowers are nice….. and I do like chocolate but what would REALLY make me smile is a restocked Sloe Gin stash’.
